Suggesting features¶
Players can suggest changes and/or additions to Mineclonia that they’d like to get in the game. As Mineclonia is a Minecraft clone, feature suggestions should usually focus on missing Minecraft features and implementation discrepancies. Like bug reports, feature suggestions go to the Mineclonia issue tracker.
From Mineclonia’s CONTRIBUTING.md (highlight by editor):
While the primary goal of Mineclonia is to clone Minecraft gameplay, sometimes contributions containing minor deviations from Minecraft will be included. These deviations should be motivated either by Luanti engine limitations or other technical difficulties replicating Minecraft behaviour. The addition of bonus features not found in Minecraft will generally not be accepted. Most of the time we will suggest putting such features in a separate mod since Mineclonia has modding support.
Players that are looking for a more original gameplay experience may feel more at home with VoxeLibre, which stopped cloning Minecraft 1-to-1 a while back.
Filing an issue¶
First, you should check whether the feature you’re trying to propose to be added had already been suggested.
Go on the Mineclonia Codeberg and open the Issues tab.
In the top field saying Search issues…, try searching for keywords that would relate to your feature. Examples:
general phrases (moobloom, missing mob, flower cow);
edition of origin (java, bedrock, console);
problem-related keywords (bucket right-click, holding shift).
Skim through the top results, esp. ones with potentially related titles.
If it appears that you’re the first one to suggest the feature, proceed with filing a report for it.
Go on the Mineclonia Codeberg and open the Issues tab.
Click or tap the New issue button.
Write a clear title that describes the feature. Prefer “Mooblooms” over a cringey “You MUST add this mob”.
Describe the feature that you’re suggesting. Include:
a short explanation of the proposed content;
why you think it belongs in Mineclonia;
how it should look/work in-game;
(if possible) a Minecraft Wiki article about the feature;
(if possible) an in-game screenshot from Minecraft JE/BE for contributors that don’t own Minecraft;
(optinally) original artwork or 3D models for the feature.
Once everything is ready, click or tap Create issue.
Note that not every suggestion will get implemented, and with some features they may lay untouched for some time until an interested contributor appears to do it. If you include assets, these have to be either yours or freely licensed (i.e. CC0, CC BY or CC BY-SA).
